Chris Tomer’s Mountain Weather Update 3/31: Big Snow for the West This Week

If you’re chasing powder this week, you’re in luck—meteorologist Chris Tomer is calling for a stormy stretch across the West, with multiple systems set to drop heavy snow on prime ski terrain.

Storm Breakdown:
A series of storms will hammer the West through April 7, delivering deep accumulations to the Wasatch, Tetons, Colorado Rockies, and interior British Columbia. Tahoe, the Pacific Northwest, and southern Utah are also in the mix for solid refreshes.

Here’s the snow timeline for key regions:
Big Sky: PM 3/31 (L), PM 4/1-4/3 (H)
Wasatch: PM 3/31-4/1 (H), 4/2-4/3 (L)
Tetons: 3/31 (M), 4/2 (L), 4/3 (L)
Colorado: 4/1 (H), 4/3-4/5 (M)
Interior BC: Late 3/31 (L), 4/1 (M), 4/2-AM 4/3 (H)
PNW: 3/31 (M), 4/1-4/2 (M/H)
Tahoe: 3/31-4/1 (H), 4/2 (L)
Northeast: Mostly rain, with a chance for snow in northern Maine and high peaks.

Powder Predictions:
Some resorts are looking at 1-2 feet of snow over the next week, with Wasatch and Colorado primed for the deepest totals. Montana could see 8-14 inches, while interior BC’s Revelstoke and Kicking Horse are set for 8-10 inches.

Big Picture:
A strong trough of low pressure is driving these storms, keeping the West in an active pattern through midweek. If you’re planning to score some turns, keep an eye on avalanche conditions and stay tuned for updates from Tomer.
