Dropping into Corbet’s- 4 Year Anniversary

It was a soft and chalky day!

Early March in 2011 I was in Jackson Hole, WY for the Alpine State Skiing Championships. I am from Laramie, WY originally and state skiing was always our favorite ski meet to go. Traditionally parents always drive up to watch state skiing and then usually ski after the ski meet at Teton Village to celebrate.

My dad was 58 that year and I was 17, a senior in high school. His thought process was if he did not do it that year then he will be too old to do it in the future (true words from an old arthritic man). It was a powder day, and the snow was heavy. As we are riding the tram up, my heart is already pounding. In retrospect, the run is not that scary but it is a mind game for a lot of people. As we approach the top, the song "Joker and the Thief" by Wolfmother starts to play. This was perfect and certainly got me excited for this endeavor.

My dad went down first and was successful. I took a few minutes for myself and finally went for it. I knew that if I hesitated at all I would have a bad time, so I launched in. As soon as I landed I was ecstatic! I went back to the tram to ride up and do it again.

The picture posted in this story is a screen shot of my run down Corbet's Couloir the other day in Jackson. I was visiting my good friend Buller Rork for his birthday on March 5th (Happy Birthday). When I got to the bottom of the run I realized it was the 4-year anniversary of my first time doing Corbet's. Everyone's first time doing Corbet's is memorable so I figured I’d share my story.

Every time I am in Jackson I try to make it to Corbet’s. The Couloir has a satisfying allure to it. I will always remember how I felt the first time I did this famous run. When I do it now days with ease I always look back at that day with my dad. I am so happy with how my skiing has improved over the years. I love that there is always something to work on with skiing. Skiing is an art and I love it.
