Lots of chopped of grass sticking up through the snow but the freezing drizzle put a solid crust on the consolidated 3-4". We leisurely cruised to the top, dreading the down. It was an even 20 degrees at the top with about a 15 mph wind out of the WNW.

The colder temps made the crust unbreakable and unedgeable. It was comical watching us try to get down beginner trails on our powder skis (only thing we had with touring bindings mounted). The best part about the descent was when it was over.

On the plus side, the base appears to be locked in, much like last year. Nobody hit anything but the twigs and hay stalks sticking up through the snow. They placed fan guns as high up as the electricity was run (top of Showoff) and things look ready to go when the temps drop. Add to that, the inch or so we got in a squall today and things appear to be looking up in 2016... as long as you're willing to earn your turns because there is still no indication that the Red Chair was certified as promised "this week".

Misrepresentation? No I think the facts are pretty clear. No $ = no lifts and no snowmaking. All as a result of poor management.

Sorry but the correct usage is you're ... as in you are. Paid 36k for that education.

Don't forget massive theft and squandery. Not that it matters now.

DoWork. You know I am a Magic fan boy to heart but these are just another example of poor management. Ask yourself would that ever happened if you were in charge? I'm certain it wouldn't. I can guarantee it would not.

I am really praying the lift is squared away before it dumps. It's going to get ugly if it isn't. I'm praying for snow. Is Magic?

    Dear Bob,
You dumb shit. First, it's "you're." Second, Stratton has been blowing all day. Bromley has been blowing all day. Unless Magic has their wet bulb up your ass, its cold enough.

No expert on snowmaking but I suspect the reason Stratton and Bromley can blow snow when Magic cannot has as much to do with new vs. ancient technology as lack of money. I was reading Bromley's blog yesterday and even with fan guns (which they can use T2B), it has to be below 25 with moderate humidity. It hasn't been that cold at the base of Magic in more than a week - they only have electricity on the bottom 500 vert or so... I think they could have blown snow at the top even with the older guns because it was 20 degrees at 9:30am when we were at the summit on Thursday but the fact is, it hasn't really been cold enough for extended periods for the technology they have. I only wish that was the real reason they haven't started...

The Bromley blog said that at marginal temps, they have to greatly reduce the water flow and therefore the output of the fan guns. The ones at Bromley are "smart" and adjust the mix based on the temp and humidity. Ain't nothing at Magic that we would call "smart". There is a chemical they can put into the mix that allows them to blow at higher temps but not sure the State allows it.

If they don't blow by tonight, you will know the jig is up. High of 11 tomorrow.

Epic, probably the next card played at this rate, anyhow. Wait, it'll be frozen pipes.

Rode under guns all AM at same elevation just across the valley. Bit wet, but thats ideal for base anyway.

Jig's about to be up in a big way. There's a brief warm up this late week, that'll be the next excuse, just wait!

From an unnamed source...actually, I know the name but not going to reveal it.

The issue with snowmaking is a $1500 breaker that deals with the pump that is bad. Guy trying to fix it couldn't get ahold of TB yesterday to get clearance to try to acquire (from Stratton, of all places). So there we have it...it's going to be cold enough for the next 72 hours but they can't pump water.

No chair, no snowmaking...can't blame the weather. Should be interesting to see what comes next...
