i'm so into 'beer league', right now.
there are some fast people on the local hill this year.
my old 187cm 2V's have our world cup bow pattern and radial edges, hot box...
Tuesday mornings are the most fun i have, other than the rare pow day.

Not nearly as embarrassing as admitting watching a Warren Miller movie though?

You'd be surprised. A lot of top racers can't ski bumps or powder well. They've spent their whole short lives perfecting race technique. But, I'm pretty sure they'd kick 99% of ass out there anywhere after retirement. If they haven't burnt out on skiing by then.

Is this just a bullshit urban legend or for real? I used to sort of subscribe to it but we've had some pow days this winter during race days and the little kid racers were ripping the shit out of the pow that usually lasts most of the day. Same with the older kids. I see some of them free skiing and they look like shit since they seem to be visualizing gates that aren't there but I'm not sure it means they can't turn it off if they have to. Or maybe it does.

i disagree, i think racers can ski bumps better than most

skiing pow is way easier than racing, way more margin for error

It's part urban legend and part real- but it kind of comes down to coaching philosophies, the amount of time spent on free skiing, and to some extent, having powder skis to ski on. I see race kids who flail pow, mostly because they are trying to ski it like a SL or GS course and are on SL or GS skis and trying to put the ski on edge all the time. Sometimes they really are one dimensional and can't ski for shit outside of the gates. A bit more of it is right tool for the right job. We've had collegiate champs in our beer league who've shown up with their pow skis and been smoked in the courses because the skis just don't respond like a true GS (they always bring the real deal the next time). But all of the high level racers I've known could rip pretty hard no matter the sliding surface.

they may get through them , but they don't necessarily look like their skiing bumps. more like a semi large radius way too high on edge feet too wide simul pop explosion semi absorption but not really partial survival technique. pretty much always on the edge of goin into the netting.

skiing pow is about as easy as it gets. no edging involved which is why many folks, racers included don't ski it very well.

Check out Aksel Lund-Svindal in Supervention (Field Productions), dude skis some legit lines in Norway with Hoji and others and looks super solid doing it. Pretty impressive for one of the best CURRENT racers in the world.

Reminds me of this video of Mancuso ripping it up at the Freeride World Tour three years ago. Repost because she is awesome.

Some racers suck at freeskiing. Some kick ass. The lists of good freeriders that were racers growing up is endless. So while ya there are plenty of gaper ski racers, Rog can fuck off for his gross generalizations...yet again

Seth morrison, todd ligare, davenport, just to name a few on the endless list

Here's Ligare just a few years fresh off the US ski team and a few national championships with DU
